Friends at Millbrook Station

Yesterday, on a gloriously sunny afternoon, we welcomed colleagues from the Abbey Line Community Rail Partnership, and Off the Rails from Leighton Buzzard, along to our little line. They were very keen to see all of the hard work that had been done out our stations by the various Station Adoption Groups on the line. We even had some friends from London Midland, Hertfordshire County Council, and Central Bedfordshire Council pop along too!

A full album of all the photos taken on the day can be found on our Facebook Page.

The first stop of the day was at Millbrook Station, where everybody got to see all the hard work that the Friends of Millbrook Station have put in over the years to improving their station. David spoke at length about all the planting, new signs, new poster boards, and even just cutting back vegitation, as well as the more routine things of checking for damage. There were some probing questions asked (notably about the ever-thorny issue of getting the relevant permissions) by the audience – just in time to catch our train to Lidlington!

The group then went on to Lidlington Station, where we had a lovely warm welcome (literally) from the Friends of Lidlington Station. Tess then gave us a whistle-stop tour of all the work that had been done at the station, and their plans. The mural, and plans for water-butts (to be confirmed) were particulary popular!

We then all headed up to the nearby Church Hall, where some very much welcomed drinks and nibbles were kindly put on by the Friends of Lidlington Station (thanks guys, they were lovely!). All group members had a chance to chat, share ideas, and have a laugh too. We then had a few words of thanks from Brenda, Head of Stations at London Midland, for all the hard work by the Station Adopters – and well deserved it is too. Our stations look brilliant because of it!

Then, sadly, we had to say goodbye :(. A big thank you to Stephen Sleight, and Liz Drake from the Abbey Line Community Rail Partnership for arranging the day out, and thank you to all our Station Adoption Groups for delivering it so well, and making it such a wonderful afternoon.

As for you guys on the Abbey Line, we hope to see you again soon!
