Africa's CowfootAs we mentioned during this weeks What’s On this Week post, this Saturday sees a bonanza of events taking place in Bedford. So much so we have had to dedicate an entire post to it. Without further ado…

One of the Free Fringe events taking place on Saturday is the BCA Artists Open Studios. Meet the studio artists and get a peek behind the scenes at their work in progress. Its open between Midday and 4pm, with an artists talk between 2pm and 4pm. Its free to enter, and the BCA Studios are just a few minutes walk from Bedford station.

Over at Bedford Theatre, Boxed is a newly devised production performed by an ensemble of young actors from the Bedford and District Cerebral Palsy Society. Tickets cost from £6 that can be bought online, with the show starting at 12:30pm. Bedford Theatre is within walking distance of Bedford Station.

If you want to get hands on and learn how to do comic art, then Kev Sutherland’s Comic Art Masterclass is for you. Comic artist Kev writes and draws for The Beano, Marvel comics, Dr Who, Red Dwarf and many more. In these fantastic 2hr masterclasses with Kev you will produce your very own comic strip and he will produce a caricature of you to take home. The price is £4 and tickets can be bought online, with the event starting at 2pm. It is taking place in the Howard room which is within walking distance of Bedford Station.

At the Harpur Suite, Africa’s Cowfoot provides you with music and theatre. With an array of traditional African stories Usifu Jalloh weaves an exciting thread of music and anthems from various genre to keep sold out audiences tapping their toes and calling for more. Tickets start from £7 and can be bought online, with the event starting at 2:30pm. The nearest station is Bedford St Johns, which is within walking distance.

The Veil (Le Foulard) provides a mixture of comedy and theatre, for those so inclined. Starring a medley of characters overwhelmed by a love of a show-stopping song and performed using only a scarf, this is an Art Show made with love by an idiot! Continuing the African theme in the Harpur Suite is African Entsha. This group – mixing vocal harmony, soul, and R&B performed at the Opening Ceremony for the World Cup! A good bit of theatre taking place on Saturday is the Hour of the Wolf at Bedford Theatre. At night, during the first anniversary of his loved one’s death, a man plagued by insomnia and bouts of fitful unrest takes a turn for the worse during the Hour of the Wolf. If you want your funny bone tickled, then head to see Tall, Dark and Darryl. Darryl Edge, Kieran Murphy and Andy Field provide you with a night of stand up comedy that’ll make you feel like you’re in Paradise City (nothing to do with Guns ‘n Roses). Tickets cost from £6, which can be bought online. The event takes place in the Howard Room which is within walking distance of Bedford Station.

Chico Chica is a light-hearted and tightly rehearsed show consists of original songs in English, French and Spanish and performance poetry. Tickets for this event cost from £6.50 and can be bought online, and it takes place in the Howard Room which is within walking distance of Bedford Station. Oh, and it kicks off at 7:30pm.

Also starting at 7:30pm is one for sock puppet fans – the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre: In Space. The stars of stage, screen & Youtube bring you a new show of songs, sketches, socks and violence with a Sci Fi theme. Tickets cost from £6.50 and can be bought online.
