Sometimes, our canals provide absolutely fantastic cycling routes that are great for all the family. The Grand Union Canal route from near Fenny Stratford station to Leighton Buzzard is just like that.
This route, part of National Cycle Route 6, has been improved so it can be easily used by cyclists. Along the 6 miles you will get to cycle an almost-completely traffic free route through the countryside, passing canal boats, locks and other cyclists along the way. Once at the end, just hop on the train at Leighton Buzzard, 5 minutes down the line from Bletchley, to get home again.
If you want a pit-stop the best place is at the Three Locks Inn near Stoke Hammond. You can also head off the route, notably to the nearby Rushmere Park.
Just a little warning on the route. It does get narrow in places, particularly under the bridges, so you will need to slow down. Also, at the Leighton Buzzard end you will need to cycle on road to get to the station.
To access the Grand Union Canal route, you will need to leave Fenny Stratford station by the eastern exit, and cycle along the Redway on Watling Street to Saxon Street.
