The River Great Ouse is undoubtedly the jewel in Bedford’s crown. In fact, as the weather is nice I may go and sit down in the park and enjoy it at lunchtime. But another way that you can enjoy it is the brand new Bedford Community Boat, shortly to be launched by the Bedford and Milton Keynes Waterway Trust.
You can book the boat for private events, or you can go on one of the public trips that are taking place until the end of August this year. The Town and Anchor Trip looks particularly appealing! The boat is 22m (72ft) long and 3m (10ft) wide and will carry over 60 passengers. The boat is equipped with an access lift and a toilet wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair.
All the events are subject to the weather and river conditions. Clearly you don’t want to be on the river when its in full flood! For all the info that you need, contact the Bedford and Milton Keynes Waterway Trust.
Most trips start from Sovereigns Quay, which is within walking distance of Bedford Station.
