As part of the Higher Level Output Specification (HLOS), the Government has committed funding to deliver the Western Section of the East-West Rail Link, between Bedford and Oxford. This will involve re-instating the old rail link between Bletchley and Oxford, lost for nearly 50 years, by 2019.
The entire route (including the Marston Vale Line) will also be electrified, forming part of the Government’s “Electric Spine”, and be double-track throughout.
In terms of services, the plan at the moment is to retain the existing hourly train service, and also provide a Bedford – Oxford semi-fast service. You can view the East-West Rail Consortium’s plans on their website.
The Community Rail Partnership looks forward to working with the East-West Rail Consortium and the Bedford to Bletchley Rail Users Association to ensure that the Marston Vale Line gets the best deal out of these planned works.
