“Friends of Lidlington Station” has recently been formed by a small group of volunteers who want to improve the environment of Lidlington Station. We received a grant from the Marston Vale Community Rail Partnership and our first event involved volunteers from the Department of Transport who came along to get us off to wonderful start by clearing the overgrown land from behind the Bletchley bound platform. Much old shrubbery and weeds were cut down to reveal a row of small conifers which had been completely buried.
On a very cold and windy day in December we secured six tubs to the station platforms and planted them with pansies and conifers which were generously provided by Staples Garden Centre at Millbrook. We also planted narcissi and daffodil bulbs which have just flowered and look wonderful.
This project was also supported by Hunter’s Farm Shop at Little Brickhill.
In the near future we hope to add more planters to the platforms and arrange for the rear of the Bedford bound platform to be cleared of rubbish and overgrown shrubs.
