Tickets

Season Ticket PhotoFor regular travellers, season tickets offer the best deal. Season tickets can be bought for any time period between one week and one year. The main advantage of a season ticket is that you can get a significant discount on your trips, even on weekly tickets, for example:

Journey: Woburn Sands to Bedford
5 Standard Day Returns: £33.50
Weekly ticket: £17.20
Saving: £16.30 (49%)

The main types of season tickets purchased, and their relative advantages and disadvantages are given below, as well as how to buy one. Before you decide what type you should purchase, think about the following:

How often will you be using the train? If it is less than 3 times a week, it may be better buying tickets on the day, rather than buying a season ticket.

For how long will you be making a particular journey to work? Changing jobs, or just working during school term is likely to change how long your Season ticket will need to be.

Can your employer help with the cost? Season tickets can be a big one-off cost to some people. But some employers offer interest-free loans to buy season tickets, and may even have negotiated discounts on season tickets. So ask questions at work!

Therefore, we would recommend that you use the Personal Journey Planner to give details of train journeys directly relevant to your journey.
