On Saturday our popular Santa Special switched tracks to Lidlington, where the church hall was transformed into a winter wonderland for the occasion, with Santa & his elves hard at work taking Christmas requests from all the children. A special Christmas goody bag was given to each child visiting the Grotto.
Families were kept entertained whilst waiting to see Santa by a face painter, balloon modeller and model railway layouts, including a ‘have a go’ Thomas and Percy model railway! There were also loads of stalls selling Christmas gifts and local food, including the renowned Bedfordshire clanger, courtesy of Gunn’s Bakery.
A big thank you needs to go to our team of 14 volunteers who were on hand during the day to meet passengers arriving by train at Lidlington station, welcome visitors to the Grotto, distribute information packs concerning forthcoming events accessible by train and sell refreshments. Volunteers travelled from as far afield as Brackley and Burton Latimer near Kettering to join in!
Donations collected on behalf of the Ampthill & District Lions resulted in such a heavy bucket that the elves struggled to carry it!
Don’t believe that people didn’t enjoy themselves? Would we lie to you? 😉 Some of the feedback on the day included:
We had a lovely time today. My three-year old son loved travelling on the train and enjoyed all the train displays at the church hall and of course he enjoyed seeing Santa. We will be looking out for more events like this in future.
Lovely event. Lucas enjoyed himself, thank you very much!
What’s more, we have the pics to prove it!
