Ridgmont Station June 2011

Last week, we paid a little visit to the new Ridgmont Station Building to have a look around inside. I have to say that the contractors have done a stunning job. So stunning we managed to take a few videos of the inside while we were there.

(Apologies now for the quality. The video was shot on my iPhone)

The first video is of the main corridor at the back of the building. This shows the entrance through the old station porters building, before panning around to the staircase, the corridor to the cafe, kitchen, and toilets, and finally the new meeting room with lots of stuff in at the moment.

This one shows where the station cafe will be. We hope to have an access direct from the platform by the time the building opens, and there will also be some extra seating outside.

We then go onto a video showing where the Gift Shop and Heritage Centre will be. This will be full of memorabilia of the line down the years, and will be manned for volunteers. We love how the fireplace has been retained!

Now we head upstairs to the 3 offices. This video shows the largest office. Its great for any start-up, and has retained many of the period features of the building. And some are still available for let too.

Finally, the most important room in the building – the kitchen. Well, we can’t let people go for days without a cup of tea, can we?

We are very impressed with the work, and we can’t wait to get the building occupied. Exciting times!
