Local Government
Local Government provide a wide variety of local services that most
people usually take for granted. As well as the obvious services
like rubbish collection, roads, and some bus services, things like
social services, planning, and Trading Standards are also the
functions of local government. Below are the authority areas served
by the Marston Vale, and how to access local authority services in
that area. Simply look under the area where you live!
Bedfordshire
In Bedfordshire (which
runs from Aspley Guise to Bedford), the responsibilities of local
government are currently split between Bedfordshire County Council,
and the 3 district councils, of which two are served by the Marston
Vale Line (Bedford Borough Council and Mid Bedfordshire District
Council). The responsibilities of each authority are as so:
Bedfordshire County Council - Waste management,
education, libraries, social services, transport, strategic
planning, trading standards
Bedford Borough and Mid Bedfordshire District Councils -
Housing, waste collection, council tax collection, local planning,
licensing, cemeteries and crematoria
Being situated in Bedford, the offices of Bedfordshire County
Council and Bedford Borough Council are within easy reach of the
Marston Vale Line. Both offices are a short walk from Bedford St
Johns station. The Mid Bedfordshire District Council Offices
can be accessed by bus from near Bedford St Johns station.
