Get walking during the Bedfordshire Walking Festival

Greensand Ridge SignThe month of September will see the very first Bedfordshire Walking Festival taking place. The purpose of this event, organised by the Bedfordshire Ramblers Association, is to encourage both residents and visitors to get out and about and enjoy their county.

With its beautiful scenery, the Marston Vale has excellent walks, and the train service is an excellent way of accessing them. A number of guided walks are planned in the Marston Vale as part of the festival. These include:

Monday 7th September (11am) - Walk4Health in Bedford. A healthy walk from the Butterfly Bridge in Bedford. The nearest station is Bedford St Johns.

Tuesday 8th September (10:30am) - Walk4Health at the Forest Centre. A healthy walk through the Forest of Marston Vale. The nearest station is Millbrook.

We also plan to run our own walks on Sunday 13th September, which you can access through our Woodworks! Sunday Special Train Service. We will update this page with more information soon.

For more information on these walks and other walks, visit the festival website on www.bedswalkfest.org.uk.

Stephen Sleight, Transport Officer, said "We are really pleased to be supporting Bedfordshire's first Walking Festival, and i would encourage you all to take the opportunity to go on one of these excellent guided walks. You can also use our train service to access a number of unguided walks and cycle rides throughout the Marston Vale. Simply look at our Walking and Cycling section for more details.

The Partnership has been set up to act as a bridge between the rail industry and the community to encourage more people to use the train for travel to work and leisure, and to share their views and ideas for improving their railway.

The Partnership will be overseeing a range of projects throughout 2009.
