Get walking during the Bedfordshire Walking Festival
The month of September will see the very first Bedfordshire
Walking Festival taking place. The purpose of this event, organised
by the Bedfordshire Ramblers Association,
is to encourage both residents and visitors to get out and about and
enjoy their county.
With its beautiful scenery, the Marston Vale has excellent walks, and the
train service is an excellent way of accessing them. A number of guided
walks are planned in the Marston Vale as part of the festival. These include:
Saturday 5th September - BBRUA Railway Ramble from Bow Brickhill
station to Fenny Stratford station via the village of Simpson and the
Grand Union Canal. There is a small charge for refreshments. For more
information, log onto www.bbrua.org.uk.

A healthy walk from the Butterfly Bridge in Bedford. The nearest station is
Bedford St Johns.

Stephen Sleight, Transport Officer, said "We are really pleased to be
supporting Bedfordshire's first Walking Festival, and i would encourage
you all to take the opportunity to go on one of these excellent guided
walks. You can also use our train service to access a number of unguided
walks and cycle rides throughout the Marston Vale. Simply look at our
Walking and Cycling section for more details.
Notes for Editors
The Marston Vale Community Rail Partnership is led by Bedfordshire
Rural Communities Charity in association with Central Bedfordshire
Council, London Midland, Milton Keynes Council, Bedford Borough
Council, Mid Bedfordshire District Council, Bedford to Bletchley
Rail Users’ Association, the Forest of Marston Vale and the
Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes Associations of Town and Parish
Councils.
The Partnership has been set up to act as a bridge between the
rail industry and the community to encourage more people to use the
train for travel to work and leisure, and to share their views and
ideas for improving their railway.
The Partnership will be overseeing a range of projects throughout
2009.
