Fly to the Bedford Kite Festival on the Marston Vale Line
The 6th
Annual International Kite Festival will be in full swing this
weekend (Saturday 31st May and Sunday 1st June), with a wide
variety of kite flyers descending on Bedford for just one weekend.
You do not even have to be a kite flyer to enjoy this popular
event, with a funfair, crafts, stalls, and much more meaning that
it is a fantastic day out for all the family.
The Marston Vale Community Rail Partnership is doing its bit to
ensure that people of the vale can get to the festivities. As well
as the normal Saturday service, we are pleased to announce that a
special Sunday service will be running this weekend, with times
given below. The festival is within easy reach of Bedford St Johns
station.
Stephen Sleight, Transport Officer at Bedfordshire Rural
Communities Charity, said "We hope that residents of the Marston
Vale take full advantage of the special trains being provided to
access this popular festival, and to go about their normal business
as well. Using the train certainly beats trying to find a parking
space, and it adds to the day out too!"
There is no need to pre-book, just turn up on the day! If you are
travelling in a group of friends or family the Marston Vale line is
great value with the Groupsave ticket. By asking for this ticket,
three or four adults can travel for the price of two on off-peak
services with up to four children travelling with the group for
just £1 each – under 5s go free.
Notes for Editors
The Marston Vale Community Rail Partnership is led by Bedfordshire
Rural Communities Charity in association with Bedfordshire County
Council, London Midland, Milton Keynes Council, Bedford Borough
Council, Mid Bedfordshire District Council, Bedford to Bletchley
Rail Users’ Association, the Forest of Marston Vale and the
Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes Associations of Town and Parish
Councils.
The Partnership has been set up to act as a bridge between the
rail industry and the community to encourage more people to use the
train for travel to work and leisure, and to share their views and
ideas for improving their railway.
The Partnership will be overseeing a range of projects throughout
2008, including special trains for the Bedford River Festival on
12th – 13th July.
