Getting a Lift
Behind
walking, getting a lift to and from the station is the most popular
means by which people access the Marston Vale service. Many of our
regular users find this to be the most flexible means of accessing
the train service, having the benefit of a taxi, but without the
cost.
Bedford and Bletchley both have formal drop-off points in the
station forecourt. There are no formal drop-off points at any of
our other stations. As a result, most people pull up by the side of
the public highway. We are happy for people to get lifts to and
from our stations, but we are keen that this is done safely, and in
a way that minimises inconvenience to the communities surrounding
our stations.
To help with this, it is worthwhile remembering a few common
courtesies when being dropped off or picked up:
-
Minimise your obstruction of the highway and footways. Park as close to the kerb as you can, but not on it. Pedestrians are road users too!
-
Park where you can be seen. Do not park just after a bend, or in any other place where your or others' visibility is poor.
-
Do not park close to road junctions. Park around 20 metres away. Parking too close can reduce visibility at the junction, and obstruct it (particularly for large vehicles)
-
Be aware of any parking or waiting restrictions. These are usually in place for the benefit of the community.
-
Do not park on private property, or obstruct private access.
