Station Adoption
One of
the key areas of work of Community Rail Partnerships is enabling
the local community to adopt stations. Stations are important local
amenities, however they can suffer from neglect. Station adoption
is a way of turning round uncared-for and unloved stations,
bringing them back into the heart of the community and encouraging
greater use of environmentally friendly public transport. It adds
value to what is already there and helps make the station more
attractive.
Other areas of the country have seen local groups such as Scouts,
Church Groups and Community Organisations help us at stations,
doing things like gardening and general cleaning and tidying.
Having schools involved helps reduce graffiti and vandalism. With
Station Adoption, passengers and the local community benefit.
Station adoption on the Marston Vale Line
Currently, no stations have been adopted by their local communities
on the Marston Vale Line. But we are actively looking for people
who are willing to look after their local station, even if it just
keeping an eye on it!
If you are interested in improving your local railway station, then
we are willing to help where we can. To get an idea of what is
possible, we suggest that you read the Station Adoption Guide
produced by the Association of Train Operating Companies and the
Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive. This can be
downloaded by following the link below, and is an extremely useful
guide.
If you are interested in station adoption, e-mail the Community
Rail Partnership Officer on
, giving details on what station
you want to adopt, what work you are willing to do, who is
interested in doing the work. We can then take it from there!
