Bedford Park

Bedford ParkDespite all the problems with cancellations we are having today, we have somehow managed to spare a few minutes of our time for our ever-popular weekly segment of Something for the Weekend. We are nothing if not committed!

Of course, the big event tomorrow that we have already mentioned is Blitznight at Bletchley Park. It really is the best fireworks display on the line, and it is only a short walk from Bletchley station. Festivities start at 17:30, with the fireworks ending just in time for the last train back to Bedford. There is a charge for entry, more information for which you can find on the Bletchley Park website.

For ladies who like to ride their bikes, or just want a bit of fun exercise, the Breeze Bike Rides for Women event is perfect for you. Starting off at Bletchley Leisure Centre at 10am, the 2 and a half hour ride to the Lakes is a great little ride. The forecast is for good weather, the Leisure Centre is within easy cycling distance of both Bletchley and Fenny Stratford stations. What’s more, you can take your bike on our trains!

Heading back to the Bedford end of the line, the Priory Wildlife Watch Group is hosting an event at Priory Country Park, where your kids will investigate things that go bump in the night! This lasts from 2pm to 4pm, with an entry charge of £2 per child. You can find out more by calling them on 01234 364213. The nearest station is Bedford St Johns, from where you can walk or cycle along National Cycle Route 51 to get to Priory Country Park.

The big sporting action of the weekend is also taking place in Bedford, with the eagerly-anticipated rugby fixture between Bedford Blues and the Newcastle Falcons. Advanced tickets have been selling fast, so get there early to avoid disappointment. Kick off at Goldington Road is 3pm, with Bedford station being a 15 minute walk away.
