Starting off today and lasting until Saturday we have the very popular Bedford Beer and Cider Festival. There are over 100 real ales for you to try, plus 40 ciders and perries, many of which are brewed locally (and taste great of course). The festivities are taking place at the Bedford Corn Exchange, which is just a 10/15 minute walk from both Bedford and Bedford St Johns Stations.
There is a small charge to get in. Its £1 up until 4pm on all days, then after 4pm its £2 on Wednesday, £3 on Thursday, £4 on Friday, and £2 on Saturday. CAMRA members get in free at all times.
And if that wasn’t enough real ale for your liking, hot on its heels is The Concrete Pint Beer Festival in Milton Keynes. Taking place right next to MK Central Rail Station, and running between Wednesday 17th October and Saturday 20th October, this festival will have a further 90 ales and ciders. Details on entry charges are still to be confirmed.
I have to confess that i may be sampling a tipple or two at Bedford, so clearly knowing the times of the last trains back will be useful. They are:
From Bedford: 21:56 departure from Bedford, calling at Bedford St Johns at 21:59.
From Milton Keynes (weekdays): 20:47 departure from Milton Keynes Central to Bletchley, to connect with the train leaving Bletchley for Bedford at 21:01.
From Milton Keynes (Saturday): 20:50 departure from Milton Keynes Central to Bletchley, to connect with the train leaving Bletchley for Bedford at 21:01.
So enjoy the fine ales and ciders of Bedfordshire and Bucks, and let the train take the strain of the journey home!
