Fare Guide

Here are details of  the most popular tickets that are available on the Marston Vale Line. For a full list of tickets, visit the London Midland website.

Season Tickets

Types of ticket: Weekly or longer.
Cost: Cheaper than buying several individual tickets.
When you can travel: Anytime.
Period of validity: From one week to one year.
Suitable for: Frequent travellers.
Where they can be purchased: Weekly tickets can be purchased from the conductor. Other season tickets can only be purchased from staffed ticket offices with a passport-sized photo. Existing Season Tickets can be renewed online.

Anytime Fares

Cost: Most expensive day ticket.
When you can travel: Anytime.
Period of validity: One day.
Suitable for: People who want maximum flexibility, and don’t mind paying a little more, and anyone who wishes to travel before 9am on a weekday.
Where they can be purchased: Online, at the ticket office, or from the conductor.

Off-Peak Fares

Cost: The cheapest day tickets.
When you can travel: After 9am on weekdays (excluding some evening peak trains from London), and any time at weekends.
Period of validity: One day.
Suitable for: People who are flexible with their time, and want a low cost ticket.
Where they can be purchased: Online, at the ticket office, or from the conductor.

London Day Travelcards

Cost: Variable, but Travelcards offer significant discounts over buying seperate London bus and Underground tickets.
When you can travel: Peak Travelcards can be used at any time. Off-Peak Travelcards can only be used after 9am on weekdays (excluding some evening peak trains coming back from London), and any time at weekends.
Period of validity: One day (though season tickets can also be purchased).
Suitable for: People who want to travel to and around London.
Where they can be purchased: Online, at the ticket office, or from the conductor.

Please note that Family Travelcards are available, where 4 kids can travel for just £1 each. But these are only available for travel to and from London, and only when 1 or 2 adults travel.

Advanced Fares

Cost: Generally very cheap.
When you can travel: On specific trains only.
Period of validity: Date on the ticket.
Suitable for: People who travel long distance, and are flexible in their travel arrangements.
Where they can be purchased: Online or at the ticket office.
Other restrictions: Some fares can only be used on specific operators.

All rail tickets sold are subject to the National Conditions of Carriage. Generally, if you understand when your ticket is valid, and stick to the most direct route to your destination, you should be ok.
