We had a busy summer on the Station.
Our first task was to clear the Bedford bound platform of brambles, litter, overgrown trees and shrubs. We had the all clear from Network Rail in the form of a license to carry out the work and had already received health and safety training, high visibility jackets and gloves. One dry Saturday morning (there were a few) saw half a dozen of us working our way along the rear of the platform. We stopped at the passenger shelter as we felt we needed to leave an area free for wildlife to thrive undisturbed.
We were lucky to receive a notice board from London Midland which the engineers installed in the Bedford bound passenger shelter for us. Our first display explained how Friends Of Lidlington Station was formed and our aims, alongside photos of our work to date.
Our next work session saw us replanting our tubs and troughs (we now have troughs on the fences on both platforms) with winter pansies generously supplied by Frosts Garden Centre. At the same time, a few trees were planted in the gaps of the conifer line on the Bletchley bound platform. Finally we changed the notice board to show a brief history of the Marston Vale line along with old photos of the station. If anyone has any information about the line or photos of Lidlington Station which we could copy, we would be very interested to hear from you.
